“David’s speaking engagement at Kentucky Wesleyan College was directed towards a broad audience which included professionals working for RiverValley Behavioral Health and New Beginnings Sexual Assault Services as well as Criminal Justice and Criminology students. What stood out to me the most about David's speaking engagement was his stage presence as he was able to move the audience with his story. He was very authentic, real, and open for discussions. In the classroom, he was able to connect with the students on an individual and personal level, he was comfortable with himself, his story, and answering any questions the students had. It was a major turning point for my students as many of them had no idea what David was incarcerated for, learning his story and seeing his success was something they talked about for weeks. I admire his professionalism, work ethic, and genuine desire to teach and help others. ”

“I do not like public speakers. When we have speakers, I am on my laptop or phone. You were different. Your story and the way you shared resonated with me and I was zoned in for the whole 2 hours. I can’t wait for you to come back and speak at Seton Hill”

“David is a dynamic and energetic speaker who brings with him a lifetime of experience inside and outside of the criminal justice system. His unique story is one of trauma and pain, but also of healing and redemption. We bring him to campus nearly every year and his ability to touch on new topics each time, while providing his personal and professional expertise, is unparalleled. Our students have learned a great deal from David, and many of them remain in contact with him even when they leave our university. Whether it is a whole day of events, or just a virtual talk, his story will captivate and inspire you.”

The University of North Texas has had the pleasure of hosting David Garlock twice. He shared his profound experiences with the criminal legal system with our students and faculty. His insights were not only educational but also deeply moving, sparking important conversations among students. He engaged with us in a way that made complex issues accessible and relatable, encouraging us to think critically about justice and reform. His passion for advocacy and education was evident, leaving a lasting impression on our students. I highly recommend David as a speaker, as his perspective is invaluable for anyone interested in social justice.

I feel so fortunate to have met David at a Pennsylvania Reentry Council meeting and to be a part of his journey. He has graciously come and spoken on our campus for five years in a row and has had a significant impact on our community. His passion, humor and ability to connect with others is apparent to everyone he meets. While it is important for him to share his story, he also is interested in hearing about others’ experiences and has made meaningful connections with many of our students over the years. It is impossible to not be moved in some way after meeting him – he is truly changing how people think about our criminal legal system.

David Garlock was a guest speaker at the 2024 Alabama Conference of Social Work. His riveting life story kept our audience engaged, and entertained while being educated on social justice issues during both his luncheon keynote address and his breakout session. Both sessions received glowing reviews, and many attendees spoke of their appreciation of him giving of his time to speak with them outside of his sessions. I highly recommend him as a speaker.
